Implementation Map
Calculation Methodology
Energy Savings Calculation
Annual energy savings are calculated based on the difference between baseline and efficient appliance energy consumption:
For air conditioners: Power = Cooling Capacity (kW) ÷ CSPF
Emissions Reduction
CO₂ emissions reduction is calculated using country-specific grid emission factors:
Default GEF: 0.5 kgCO₂/kWh (Sub-Saharan Africa average). Country-specific factors available in database.
Cost Savings
Financial savings based on local electricity tariffs:
Default tariff: $0.15/kWh. Country-specific tariffs stored in database.
Performance Metric Standards
Air Conditioners - CSPF
Cooling Seasonal Performance Factor measures average efficiency across seasonal conditions.
| Baseline (Fixed Speed) | CSPF 3.0 |
| U4E Minimum (Level 3) | CSPF 3.5 |
| Advanced (Inverter) | CSPF ≥ 4.5 |
| Best Practice | CSPF ≥ 5.5 |
Refrigerators - EEI
Energy Efficiency Index compares consumption to reference model (lower is better).
| Inefficient | EEI > 150 |
| ECOWAS Regional | EEI ≤ 140 |
| SADC Harmonized | EEI ≤ 120 |
| Global Best Practice | EEI ≤ 100 |
Electric Motors - IE Class
IEC 60034-30-1 International Efficiency classification.
| IE1 Standard | ~80% efficient |
| IE2 High Efficiency | ~86% efficient |
| IE3 Premium | ~91% efficient |
| IE4 Super Premium | ~93% efficient |
Lighting - Efficacy (lm/W)
Lumens per watt measures light output efficiency.
| Incandescent | ~12 lm/W |
| CFL | ~60 lm/W |
| LED Basic (MEPS) | ≥80 lm/W |
| LED Premium | ≥120 lm/W |

Gap-Filling Methodology
When country-specific data is unavailable, the following approaches are applied:
Grid Emission Factors
- Primary: IEA Emissions Factors 2024 (country-specific where available)
- Secondary: IPCC Tier 1 default factors by fuel mix
- Fallback: Regional average (Sub-Saharan Africa: 0.50 kgCO₂/kWh)
Electricity Tariffs
- Primary: National utility tariffs (Dec 2024)
- Secondary: GlobalPetrolPrices.com database
- Fallback: Regional average (Africa: $0.134/kWh residential)
Appliance Stock
- Primary: U4E/CLASP market assessments (country-specific)
- Secondary: IEA Africa Outlook extrapolations
- Fallback: Population × ownership rate (AC: 5-15%, Refrigerator: 20-40%)
Appliance Prices
- Primary: CLASP market studies, U4E assessments
- Secondary: Online retailer surveys (Jumia, etc.)
- Fallback: Regional average (AC: $380-450 USD, Refrigerator: $300-400 USD)
Data Quality Assurance
